As only one object was recovered from this feature, it is difficult to phase, although it has been tentatively placed in the Anglian period (the find was of Niedermendig lava). It remains possible that this feature is of an earlier period.

Discussion

This was one of a group of three roughly parallel slots (with 012AD00877 and 012AD00879). All three of the slots were cut by ditch 012AD00514. Although it was not clear either during excavation or in section, it appears likely that this slot was also cut by ditch 012AD00920. The fill was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2), with 5% chalk inclusions. A little daub and charcoal flecking was noted in the fill (though not enough to obtain samples). The animal bone recovery was sparse, with sheep/goat accounting for half (5 bones). Also found were single pig and goose bones.

The slot was cut into chalk, with a U-shaped profile.
